Petit Bateau is a French clothing company that specializes in children’s wear.  It started as a hosiery factory in 1819 by Pierre Valton. However, its modern beginnings as we know it now only started in 1918. 

Etienne Valton, the owner’s son, was inspired by a popular French rhyme where the company got its name. In a moment of inspiration, he cut the legs off the long johns worn at that time and the modern trousers we're born. 

They went public in 1920 and introduced Marinette, their mascot. Since then, Petit Bateau has become synonymous with high-quality kids wear that come in fun styles.
